The Bin - R.I.P.
For many years, Karori Lions and Tinakori Lions provided a rubbish disposal facility on the 1st (Karori) and 3rd (Tinakori) Saturdays of the month in Old Karori Road, off Curtis Street, opposite the Karori Garden Centre.
Rubbish could be deposited in a large bin between 8 am and midday; charges were comparable with those at the Council Tip, but there was a considerable saving in distance travelled, and the more elderly appreciated the assistance provided by our members in unloading rubbish from their vehicles
We accepted rubbish of any type, provided it could be lifted by two people and deposited into a high-sided rubbish bin. We will also accepted items that could be sold at the "White Elephant" stall at the annual Karori Karnival, held in February or March.
Regrettably, we had to stop this service when it became inconsistent with the council's waste disposal policies and new charges by the Council for the disposal of rubbish collected by us made the project uneconomic.
