Spirit of New Zealand; sailing ship operated by the Spirit of Adventure Trust |
|
"The voyage will be from 5 to 9 March 1999 and and is for young people aged 15 to 19 who have physical disabilities including sight and hearing impairments. Fourteen male and fourteen female voyagers will be chosen from throughout the North and South Islands. Historically, a voyage for such a group has been sponsored by an Auckland yachting club, but they are no longer in a position to offer sponsorship.
"The total cost of the voyage will be $(NZ)15,000 and the participants will contribute $2800 of this. The balance of $12,200 is to be found by Karori Lions and we hope that the bulk of this can be found through other Clubs and a grant from the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs' Charitable Trust. Karori Lions certainly needs all the help that can be found for this project as it has come up very late in the piece without any prior planning and the amount of money needed simply cannot be found by the Club without assistance. If all the funds cannot be raised, the whole voyage will be "canned".
"We have asked for any donations to be made out to:
Karori Lions Club Inc Spirit of Adventure Trust,
and that they should be posted to:
The Treasurer, Lions Club of Karori Inc, P.O. Box 17-103, Karori, Wellington
"Any donations made by people visiting this page will be most gratefully recieved. If the appeal is oversubscribed, the balance will be placed in the Lloyd Morgan Trust for the use of Clubs in future similar projects."
